Macadamia, Coffee and Bees
We aim to improve household income and sustainability within communities through the 1-acre MACOBEE project, which integrates Coffee, Macadamia, Beekeeping, and a Water Pond, to strengthen family financial stability.
On a one-acre plot, a farmer can effectively utilize the space by implementing the following:
- Plant 430 coffee trees with a spacing of 10 x 10 feet between each tree.
- Cultivate 30 macadamia trees, spaced 33 x 33 feet apart.
- Establish an apiary with 4 beehives to support pollination and honey production.
- Construct a 40,000-liter water pond, with dimensions of 9 x 9 x 7 feet, for irrigation and other farm needs.
Since 2010, we have trained and made a positive impact on over 3,656 farmers. All of these farmers are organized into structured farmer groups for better coordination and support.
We have distributed over 3,000,000 coffee trees and developed more than 10,000 acres of land since our inception.
We introduced the Macadamia tree to our farmers in 2022. Since then, we have distributed over 19,500 macadamia seedlings to more than 700 farmers. These trees not only provide shade for coffee crops but also enhance soil fertility by fixing nitrogen.
Since 2018, over 2,500 beehives have been distributed to more than 950 farmers. Bees play a crucial role in pollination, which directly boosts coffee yields. Additionally, farmers can earn income from various bee products such as honey, beeswax, and others.
Over 600 water ponds have been constructed, each capable of harvesting 40,000 liters of rainwater. This stored water is used by farmers for irrigation during the dry season.
